Educating the world on AI and Data

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data have become integral parts of our daily lives, impacting our society in significant ways. However, there is still a lack of understanding among many people regarding these concepts. To address this issue, two innovative initiatives, Elements of AI and Datareisen, have been developed to educate people on AI and data.

    About

    Elements of AI

Elements of AI, a free online course, was launched in 2018 by MinnaLearn, together with the University of Helsinki, design and front end development by Fusion Ecosystem companies Feed and  MinnaLearn.

The course aims to demystify AI, without requiring complicated math or programming skills. The initial goal was to educate 1% of the Finnish population, but the course quickly surpassed this goal and has now set its sights on educating 1% of the world. To date, nearly 1,000,000 students from 170 countries have registered for the course.

One of the unique aspects of Elements of AI is its emphasis on the ethics of AI and the problem of bias. The course is designed to be accessible to people from all backgrounds, with over 45% of registrants being female and 25% being over 45 years old. Additionally, Elements of AI is ranked as the #1 Computer Science online course in the world, ahead of Stanford, Harvard, and MIT.

    Datareisen

In 2022, a free digital course called Datareisen was created by Fusion Ecosystem company Feed as a result of the previous case Elements of AI. Datareisen offers a basic introduction to data and its impact on individuals, workplaces, and society. Developed in close collaboration with Digital Norway and the Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE) at the University of Bergen, the course is part of the university’s “Fantastic Data” course. Datareisen is designed to increase competence around data among students and businesses.

What sets Datareisen apart is its unique visual identity, which evolves with the user’s progress. The supporting visual element is a data visualization that represents the user’s “data journey.” The visualization is generated based on the user’s progress, answered questions, and username. As a result, Datareisen’s visual identity is unique to each user.

    Hurtigruten

We partnered with Hurtigruten, the Norwegian Coastal Express, to create a digital passenger experience for their new vessel, MS Roald Amundsen. Our mission was to create a sustainable tool that would give the passengers a peace of mind, while reducing the crew’s workload.
