First agency for IT freelancers in Finland
Finitec was founded in the summer of 2005 as the first agency for IT freelancers in Finland. The idea for an agency came up in the UK where Finitec founder Pekka Hackspik worked as a Talent Agent in the early 2000s.
After doing some research, Pekka found that there was no freelancer market in Finland at that time even though the market demand for IT professionals was high. As there were no freelancers Finitec started delivering experts from smaller companies to end clients. As Finitec started surfacing opportunities for freelancers, the freelancer market and general interest in freelancing started to grow.
The key Finitec crew started to take shape in 2009 as Taavi Thiel joined the gang. As a heavyweight in sales, Taavi helped propel Finitec to a fast track of growth. This didn’t go unnoticed by Reaktor and Bravedo and eventually, Finitec became part of the Fusion (then Reaktor) Ecosystem and Bravedo tech cluster in 2013.
Software Development became Finitec’s focus area after Lauri Jutila and Rami Hirvelä joined the company in 2017 and 2018.
How do you see your company in today’s markets?
At the moment there are some key trends that give a tailwind to freelance agencies like Finitec.
- Full-time independence is an increasingly viable and attractive option for many professionals, especially for those working in software development and digital transformation.
- Companies have become more comfortable working with freelancers as well as matured in acquiring and leading teams of freelance talent.
- Remote work becoming the new normal has also encouraged many new professionals to pursue self-employment due to increased flexibility.
- Work-life satisfaction among independents has remained high.
